Which is a better antihistamine Zyrtec or Claritin?

Zyrtec has a quicker onset of action compared to Claritin and may be more effective than Claritin in reducing allergy symptoms, according to one clinical trial. However, cetirizine, the active ingredient of Zyrtec, has been shown to produce more drowsiness than loratadine.

Is Rhinocort made by Zyrtec?

RHINOCORT® Allergy Spray (budesonide) is a nasal allergy spray from the makers of ZYRTEC® (cetirizine HCl). RHINOCORT® relieves the allergy symptoms of nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy nose and sneezing.

Can Zyrtec affect eyes?

Avoid oral antihistamines. As noted above, all oral antihistamines including newer-generation antihistamines, such as Claritin, Zyrtec (cetirizine, Pfizer) and Allegra (fexofenadine, Aventis Pharmaceuticals) dry the eye. This can worsen ocular allergies in two ways.

The advice on which Benadryl alternative is best is a difficult one to give. Thus, when heated and distilled, nettle leaves release these compounds that can help in the treatment of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis. True controlled experimental studies which compare first- and second-generation antihistamines are unfortunately lacking.

If you still experience allergy symptoms after using over the counter antihistamines, it is best to seek treatment from an allergist. We ask our patients who come into the office to stop taking oral antihistamines 48 hours before their visit. Some nasal sprays offered over the counter are Rhinocort Allergy, Flonase Allergy Relief, and Nasacort Allergy 24HR. They are best used for the treatment of seasonal allergy symptoms such as itchy nose/throat, coughing, runny nose, and sneezing. You can schedule an appointment with Dr. Patel by calling (212) 686-4448.
