Description

Viral infections (such as the common cold and the flu) will not be treated by it. It functions by preventing bacterial growth. This antibiotic only addresses bacterial infections. Malaria prevention is another use for this medication. This medication is known as a tetracycline antibiotic. This drug is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including acne-causing infections. Any antibiotic that is overused may stop working to treat subsequent infections.

Dosage

Continue taking doxycycline for 4 weeks after leaving the area with malaria, but not for longer than 4 months total. Carefully adhere to the instructions on the prescription label. Adults should take 100 to 300 mg of doxycycline injectable daily. Take this medication exactly as your doctor has advised. The following factors may influence the dosage your doctor prescribes: the condition being treated; other medical conditions you have; other medications you are taking; how you respond to this medication; your weight; your height; your age; and your gender. Oral: Take doxycycline exactly as directed. Doxycycline comes in a variety of dosages, with the recommended daily dose for all of them ranging from 100 to 200 mg. Doxycycline is administered in doses of 50 mg when used in a dental setting to treat periodontitis. You should begin taking doxycycline 1–2 days before leaving for a malaria-endemic area if you want to prevent malaria. Based on the type and severity of your infection as well as your age, your doctor will choose the right doxycycline dosage and schedule for you.

Missed dose

Do not double the dose to catch up. You should skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember if you forget. At the scheduled time, take your subsequent dose.

Overdose

However, if overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical attention. If doxycycline is administered by a healthcare provider in a medical setting, it is unlikely that an overdose will occur. Call your doctor or the local poison control center right away if you take too much doxycycline, or go to the hospital right away for emergency care.

Storage

The instructions for storing your brand can be found on the product package, or you can ask your pharmacist. Speak with your pharmacy or the regional waste management firm. The best way to store this drug varies depending on the brand. Unless otherwise instructed, avoid flushing or pouring medications down the drain. Keep out of the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets. When the product has run its course or is no longer required, dispose of it properly. Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Serious illness can occur if you take outdated tetracycline-related medications.

Anecdotally increased maternal consumption of garlic masks the taste of the Metronidazole. The tablets have rarely produced antibiotic-associated colitis in breastfed babies (one reported case) and babies exposed should be observed for blood in faeces. There is no evidence that topical anti-infective creams, ointments and gels are sufficiently absorbed to pass into breastmilk. The data presented here is intended to provide some immediate information but cannot replace input from professionals.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
