Side effects
The majority of side effects disappear, but if any bother you or persist, let your doctor know. The most typical negative effects of this medication are nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, gum swelling, headache, sleepiness, tremor, hair loss, and liver damage. These effects might be avoidable or manageable in some circumstances.
Interactions
The following medications should be mentioned to your doctor: Aspirin, Felbamate, Carbapenem Antibiotics, Rifampin, Antacids (Maalox, Trisogel, and Titralac), Chlorpromazine, Amitriptyline/Nortriptyline, carbamazepine, Clonazepam, Diazepam, Ethosuximide, Lamotrigine, Tolbutamide, Topiramate, Blood levels of Valporic acid are lowered by phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital (or primidone).
Contraindications
Additionally, tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking, especially any contraceptive pills, as some of them may interact with this medication. Inform your doctor if you have meningitis, depression, suicidal thoughts, kidney or liver issues, before taking this medication. If Valparin Chrono 500 Tablet CR is clearly required while you are pregnant or nursing, you can take it, but the dosage may need to be changed. To monitor how you are responding to this medication, you might need frequent blood tests. You should avoid driving or riding a bicycle if this medicine makes you drowsy or dizzy.
Valproic acid is a branched short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) made from valeric acid. Carbapenem antibiotics: reduce valproate levels, potentially leading to seizures. It is used primarily to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder. Valproate inhibits CYP2C9, glucuronyl transferase, and epoxide hydrolase and is highly protein bound and hence may interact with drugs that are substrates for any of these enzymes or are highly protein bound themselves.
