Side effects
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. But if you experience any serious allergic reaction symptoms, such as a rash, itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention right away. Inform your doctor or pharmacist right away if any of these side effects persist or get worse. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any additional effects that aren't covered above. Interactions
For more information, speak with your doctor or pharmacist. Tell your doctor right away if you take any of the following: antacids that contain aluminum, such as Amphojel, Gaviscon, Maalox, and Mylanta; cholestryramine (LoCHOLEST, Prevalite, Questran); clofibrate (Atromid-S); colestipol (Colestid); or medications that contain estrogen, such as birth control pills. This is not an exhaustive list of ursodiol In addition to vitamins and herbal supplements, make sure your doctor is aware of all the medications you are taking, both prescription and over-the-counter.
Contraindications
You may feel more lightheaded after consuming alcohol or marijuana (cannabis). Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any other allergies prior to taking ursodiol, in addition to allergies to bile acids in general. A biliary-gastrointestinal fistula, acute cholecystitis, cholangitis, biliary obstruction, gallstone pancreatitis, and liver disease (such as ascites, variceal bleeding, and hepatic encephalopathy) should be mentioned in your medical history when taking this medication. Before breastfeeding, consult a doctor. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Until you can do something safely, avoid operating machinery, driving, or doing anything else that requires alertness. This medication should only be taken during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Limit your alcohol consumption. If you use cannabis (marijuana), speak with your doctor. For more information, consult your pharmacist. This drug may make you dizzy. This medication passes into breast milk. Inactive ingredients in this product could result in allergic reactions or other issues.

Dosing based on long-term (2.5 years), open-label, crossover trial of 13 patients (ages 2 to 27 years) with intrahepatic cholestasis; six of the 13 patients had symptomatic improvement in pruritus (Narkewicz 1998). Dosing: Adult Gallstone dissolution (Actigall): Oral: 8 to 10 mg/kg/day in 2 to 3 divided doses; use beyond 24 months is not established Gallstone prevention post-bariatric surgery (off-label use): Oral: 500 to 600 mg once daily or in 2 divided doses for 6 months.
