Dosage

Until the target blood pressure is reached, the dose is gradually increased based on each patient's response to the medication. The recommended starting dose of Trandate is 100 mg twice daily. Your doctor may adjust this dosage depending on your age, other medical conditions you have, and other medications you are taking. Trandate is typically taken 200 to 400 mg twice daily for maintenance.

Missed dose

Taking two doses at once is not advised. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medication as soon as you can.

Interactions

Tell your doctor if you take any of the following: other drugs for high blood pressure or heart disease cimetidine (Tagamet) nitroglycerin drugs for asthma, headaches, allergies, colds, or pain vitamins. Contraindications

Before you know how Trandate affects you, avoid operating heavy machinery or driving. Stop taking Trandate only after consulting your doctor. If you have bronchial asthma, overt cardiac failure, a greater-than-first-degree heart block, cardiogenic shock, a severely low heart rate, or any other conditions linked to a severe and prolonged drop in blood pressure, you should not take Trandate. Some people may experience chest pain or a heart attack if Trandate is stopped abruptly. Shortness of breath, swelling of the feet and lower legs, sudden weight gain, and chest pain are just a few of the serious side effects associated with Trandate that have been reported. Trandate can also make you feel drowsy and dizzy.
