Interactions

Contraindications
Avoid abrupt withdrawal of taking Toprol, which might result in a thyroid storm, a life-threatening situation if left untreated. asthma or other bronchospastic conditions. If you experience any of the following bradycardia and/or low blood pressure symptoms, contact your doctor right away: feeling as though you're about to pass out; exhaustion; shortness of breath; dizziness; weakness; confusion; blurred vision; or if you experience any of the symptoms listed below. Toprol can make you drowsy. If you experience any of the hypoglycemia symptoms listed below, such as dizziness, sweating, or thyrotoxicosis, contact your healthcare provider right away. You should seek medical attention right away if you experience any of the following heart failure symptoms: sudden weight gain; worsening shortness of breath; increased swelling of the feet, legs, or abdomen; needing more pillows to fall asleep; sleeping in a recliner; needing to wake up from sleep to catch your breath; cough that won't go away; new or worsening irregularities in your heart rate; diabetes; and low blood sugar. Do not abruptly stop taking this medication to prevent these side effects. Toprol can cause serious withdrawal side effects. When other similar forms of treatment are ineffective or are intolerable for patients with bronchospastic disease, toprol may be used with caution. Toprol may mask symptoms of low blood sugar in those with diabetes. When a person has hyperthyroidism, toprol may conceal the symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. Cardiac failure could worsen.
