Add 10 mL (2 teaspoons) of apple juice, then gently tap or shake the syringe's barrel to help it empty. Connect a 16 French (or larger) tube to the catheter tip of the syringe. Open the packet and add it to the apple juice. The packet should be opened before using it with applesauce. Without first consulting your doctor, never alter your Protonix dosage or stop taking it. The granules should not be chewed or crushed. Protonix tablets should never be chewed, crushed, or split. You shouldn't try to make up a missed dose by taking two doses. Do not use any other foods. The same amount of apple juice (10 mL or 2 teaspoonfuls) should be used each time. Repeat this process at least two more times. Pour the granules and a teaspoon of apple juice into a small cup or spoon. Place the packet's contents in the syringe's barrel. To avoid any tubing bending while administering Protonix oral suspension, hold the syringe connected to the tubing as high as you can. Don't take the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. If you miss a dose of Protonix, take it as soon as you remember. Take two 20 mg Protonix tablets if you find it difficult to swallow a 40 mg tablet. Injection: This medication is also available in an injectable form that can be administered intravenously (IV) by a medical professional. Protonix Oral Suspension Can Be Administered Through a Gastrostomy or Nasogastric Tube Assemble a 2 ounce (60 mL) catheter-tip syringe and remove the plunger from the barrel. Administer Protonix Oral Suspension through this tube. No granules should be left in the syringe. Only take Protonix oral suspension with applesauce or apple juice 30 minutes before a meal. To make a smaller dose, do not divide the Protonix oral suspension packet. It is not recommended to chew or crush Protonix oral suspension. Protonix should not be taken in or with water or other liquids, or with other foods other than those described below. If necessary, take more water sips. On one teaspoon of applesauce, add the granules. Stir the mixture for 5 seconds (granules won't break up), then immediately ingest it. Protonix tablets should be taken whole. Swallow the apple juice right away. Tablets: You can take Protonix tablets on an empty stomach or with food. As directed by your doctor, take Protonix exactly as directed. Drink small amounts of water to ensure that the granules reach the stomach. The next dose should be taken at the scheduled time. Take the pill 10 minutes after adding the granules to the teaspoon of applesauce. The plunger should be discarded. To make sure that the entire dose is taken, rinse the container once or twice with apple juice to get out any leftover granules.

How long can I take pantoprazole?

You should only take pantoprazole for up to 8 weeks if you are buying it without a prescription or a physician evaluation of your symptoms. This is because certain stomach symptoms that persist for more than 4 to 8 weeks should be investigated by a doctor, as they may be a sign of something more serious, such as cancer. Pantoprazole is very good at relieving and hiding serious stomach symptoms, which may make you think you don’t need to see a physician. Long-term use of pantoprazole has also been associated with vitamin B12 deficiency; low magnesium, calcium, iron, or vitamin C levels; and an increased risk of fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine. Elderly, the malnourished, or those on dialysis are more at risk.

How does pantoprazole work in the body?

Pantoprazole is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton pumps are enzymes in the lining of your stomach that help it make acid to digest your food. Pantoprazole prevents proton pumps from working properly. This reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes.

What is a Protonix used for?

This medication relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. It helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus. Pantoprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).

Which is better Protonix or omeprazole?

Does Pantoprazole Work Better Than Omeprazole? Generally, pantoprazole and omeprazole are equally effective. Studies comparing pantoprazole and omeprazole have found pantoprazole as effective as omeprazole in treating GERD as well as treating stomach ulcers.
