The term ACE refers to angiotensin converting enzyme. Additionally, prinivil is used to treat adult congestive heart failure or to increase survival rates following a heart attack. A common ACE inhibitor is Prinivil. Adults and kids who are at least 6 years old who have hypertension are treated with prinivil.


-If blood pressure is not controlled with Prinivil alone, a low dose of a diuretic may be added (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide, 12.5 mg). -Although the 80 mg dose is used, it doesn't seem to have a greater impact. After the addition of a diuretic, it may be possible to reduce the dose of Prinivil. Comments: -During the first three days following an infarct, therapy should be started at 2.5 mg for patients with a low systolic blood pressure (less than or equal to 120 mm Hg and greater than 100 mm Hg). Detailed Prinivil dosage information At least six weeks should pass after the initial dose. Therapy should be stopped if prolonged hypotension (systolic blood pressure less than 90 mmHg for more than 1 hour) takes place. Initial dose: 10 mg once daily; 5 mg once daily Maintenance dose: 20 to 40 mg once daily Maximum dose: 80 mg once daily Comments: -In patients receiving a diuretic, the initial dose is 5 mg once daily. Initial dosage: 10 to 20 mg orally once per day; Maintenance dosage: 20 to 40 mg orally once per day; Dosage may be increased by titrating every 3 days; Comments: -Not an approved indication. Initial dosage: 2.5 to 5 mg once daily Maintenance dosage: Dosage should be increased as tolerated Maximum dose: 40 mg once daily Comments: -The diuretic dose may need to be adjusted to help reduce hypovolemia, which may contribute to hypotension. The dosage should be increased from 2.5 mg to 5 mg per day at intervals of one to two weeks for maintenance. The initial dose is 2.5 to 5 mg taken orally once daily. Initial dose: 5 mg orally, followed by doses of 5 mg orally after 24 hours and 10 mg orally after 48 hours (within 24 hours of the onset of acute myocardial infarction). Maintenance dose: 10 mg orally once a day. 40 mg orally, once daily, is the maximum dose. Maximum dose: Children under the age of 6 or with glomerular filtration rates less than 30 mL/min should not receive doses greater than 0.61 mg/kg or 40 mg. Children older than or equal to 6 years old: Initial dose: 0.07 mg/kg orally once a day (maximum initial dose is 5 mg once a day) Maintenance dose: Dosage should be adjusted based on blood pressure response at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks. The appearance of hypotension after the initial dose of Prinivil does not preclude subsequent careful dose titration with the drug. Reduced mortality from acute myocardial infarction is one of its uses. While taking this medication, contact your doctor right away if you experience any rash, itching, hoarseness, breathing or swallowing difficulties, or swelling of your hands, face, mouth, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor right away. If you experience a fever, chills, or sore throat, consult your physician. If you experience any sort of illness while taking this medication, especially severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, call your doctor right away. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without first checking with your doctor. Dehydration and excessive sweating can both cause a significant drop in blood pressure. While you are taking Prinivil, hyperkalemia (high potassium in the blood) could happen. Consult your doctor if the results of your blood or urine sugar tests change or if you have any concerns. Tell your doctor as soon as you suspect pregnancy if you've been taking this medication. It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure this medicine is working properly. Keep all medical and laboratory appointments while taking Prinivil. Before driving, operating machinery, or engaging in other activities that could be hazardous if you are dizzy or inattentive, be sure to understand how the medication affects you. Angioedema, a rapid swelling of the skin's deep layers, is a serious side effect of prinivil that can occur. When getting up from a lying or seated position, taking Prinivil can make you feel woozy, lightheaded, or faint. See "FDA Warning" and "Pregnancy Section". If you experience angioedema symptoms (swelling of the face, extremities, eyes, lips, or tongue, difficulty swallowing or breathing), stop taking Prinivil and contact your doctor right away. Symptoms of hyperkalemia include: abdominal or stomach pain, confusion, difficulty with breathing, irregular heartbeat, nausea or vomiting, nervousness, numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips, shortness of breath, or weakness or heaviness of the legs. These ailments could result in excessive water or salt loss as well as low blood pressure. These could be indications of an infection brought on by a deficiency in white blood cells.
