Side effects

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. The following are some of the most frequent side effects of Nasonex: headache, viral infection, sore throat, nosebleeds, and cough.

Interactions

If you are taking other corticosteroid medicines for allergy, either by mouth or injection, your doctor may advise you to stop taking them once you begin using Nasonex. Nasonex and other medications may interact and have negative side effects. Nasonex may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect how Nasonex works. Inform your doctor about every medication you take, including vitamins, herbal supplements, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications.

Contraindications

Avoid coming into contact with measles and chicken pox. If you have ever had tuberculosis or an eye herpes infection, tell your doctor before taking Nasonex because it may cause these infections to get worse because Nasonex suppresses the immune system. Do not use Nasonex if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Nasonex. If you are exposed to measles or chicken pox while using Nasonex, call your doctor right away. Using Nasonex increases the risk of developing cataracts or glaucoma. Nasonex is a nasal steroid and may suppress the immune system. Nasonex, like all steroids, may cause children and teenagers to grow more slowly. Nasonex has the potential to suppress the immune system, whereas oral (orally consumed) steroids are more likely to do so. Taking steroids may put you at a higher risk for infections.

Typically, our patients have successfully used Nasonex OTC with minimal side effects, however it is possible—as it is with any medication—for you to have side effects. This announcement exemplifies inorganic opportunities to expand the OTC self-care market while enhancing long-term growth in our U.S. consumer business. Merck, the company that manufactures Nasonex, has entered into an agreement with Perrigo Company to now make Nasonex OTC. Perrigo Company, established in 1887, is a global health care company. However, we encourage you to speak with one of our ear, nose and throat doctors before giving any over-the-counter allergy medicine to children.

Sinusitis is a clinical diagnosis, meaning your doctor can diagnose it based on your symptoms and signs on physical examination. The most common intranasal corticosteroids include: Flonase (Fluticasone) Nasonex (Mometasone) Nasacort (Triamcinolone) These medications can start working within hours, but their maximal effectiveness occurs after 1-2 weeks of daily or twice-daily use. The incidence of acute sinusitis is approximately 15-40 episodes per 1000 patients per year. They will also examine the oral cavity and throat, looking for inflammation or pus.
