A tetracycline antibiotic called minomycin is prescribed to treat chlamydia, acne, and urinary tract infections.
A tetracycline antibiotic called minomycin works by preventing bacteria from synthesizing proteins. Minomycin is used to treat a variety of conditions, including acne, actinomycosis, bacterial infections, meningitis, meningococcal pemphigoid, pemphigus, rheumatoid arthritis, rosacea, skin and structure infections, skin infections, gonorrhea, and chlamydiosis.
Minomycin should not be taken with dairy products. Do not crush, chew or break an extended-release pill. Shake any liquid suspension before using, and measure with a designated dose measuring spoon. Take exactly as prescribed, never exceed your dose or take the medication longer than it was recommended by your doctor. With or without food, take this medication with a large glass of water.

While taking this medication, you may experience the following side effects: hives, rash, swelling of your face and tongue, difficulty swallowing, severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision, fever, chills, body aches, severe blistering, peeling, urinating less than usual or not at all, pale or yellowed skin, dark urine, confusion or weakness, excruciating upper stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, rapid heartbeat, jaundice, easy bruising or bleeding.
Absorption of tetracyclines and Minomycin in particular is impaired by antacids containing aluminum, calcium or magnesium, and iron-containing preparations. It is best to avoid administering medications from the tetracycline class with penicillin. Certain birth control pills and minomycin interact, which may reduce the effectiveness of the latter. When methoxyflurane and tetracycline are used together, fatal renal toxicity may occur. They may also lower plasma prothrombin, necessitating adjustment of the Minomycin dose given along with anticoagulant therapy.

Avoid taking iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives at the same time as Minomycin; instead, take these medications two hours before or after Minomycin intake. The use of this medication is contraindicated in women who are pregnant, nursing, or have children under the age of eight.
