Not all possible interactions are covered here. The levels of other medications you take in your blood can be impacted by some drugs. It is occasionally dangerous to take certain medications at the same time. In addition to any new or discontinued medications, make sure your doctor is aware of all of your current medications. This covers both prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Your risk may be higher if you also use certain other medicines for infections, heart problems, depression, mental illness, cancer, malaria, or HIV.
Contraindications
You may become more groggy or drowsy after consuming alcohol or marijuana (cannabis). Due to the bacteria C. difficile, antibiotics can very rarely result in a severe intestinal condition. Steer clear of alcohol. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies before taking loperamide, including any to other medications. If you have any of the following conditions before taking loperamide: certain heart problems (heart failure, slow heartbeat, QT prolongation in the EKG), family history of certain heart problems (QT prolongation in the EKG, sudden cardiac death), please inform your doctor or pharmacist. Dehydration is another risk factor for children. The effects of this medication, particularly drowsiness, may be more noticeable in children. Before breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. If you experience any of the aforementioned symptoms, do not take this anti-diarrhea medication without first consulting your doctor, especially if you recently used an antibiotic. Only use this medication if absolutely necessary while pregnant. Before taking this medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any of the following health issues: stomach/abdominal pain without diarrhea, bowel obstruction (such as ileus, megacolon, abdominal distention), black/tarry stool, blood or mucus in your stool, high fever, HIV infection or AIDS, liver issues, specific stomach/intestinal infections (such as Salmonella, Shigella), or a specific type of bowel disease (acute ulcerative colitis). The safe use of this medication should be discussed with your doctor or pharmacist if you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other condition that requires you to limit your intake of aspartame or phenylalanine. The heart rhythm disorder QT prolongation may be brought on by loperamide. Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood may also increase your risk of QT prolongation. Elderly people may be more sensitive to this medication's side effects, especially QT prolongation (see above). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away. Aspartame or phenylalanine may be present in the rapidly dissolving tablets. If you take other medications or have certain medical conditions that can lead to QT prolongation, your risk of experiencing it may increase. A few weeks to several months after the end of the treatment, this condition may develop. You might feel light-headed or sleepy after taking this medication. Although this medication passes into breast milk, a nursing infant is unlikely to experience any unfavorable side effects. This condition might become worse as a result of this medication. Inactive ingredients in this product could result in allergic reactions or other issues. This risk may rise if you take specific medications (such as diuretics or "water pills") or experience certain health issues, such as excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting.
Please note this is a generic brand so the brand you receive may vary depending on availability. It results in firmer stools that are passed less frequently. Loperamide reduces the speed at which the gut contents are pushed through the intestines, allowing more time for water and electrolytes to be reabsorbed from the gut contents back into the body.
Heart alert: Taking more than directed can cause serious heart problems or death. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. With 1mg of Loperamide HCl per 7.5 mL, this product helps control the symptoms of diarrhea, including Travelers’ Diarrhea.
HOW TO USE: If you are using the over-the-counter product to self-treat, read all the directions on the product package before taking this medication. This decreases the number of bowel movements and makes the stool less watery. In children, dosage is also based on age and weight. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.This is not a complete list of possible side effects.
