Description

To learn more, consult your physician or pharmacist. Labetalol is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. This medication may be prescribed for other uses.

Dosage

You might have to lay still for up to three hours following the injection. Detailed Labetalol dosage information Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. There are frequently no symptoms of high blood pressure. If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar regularly. Even if you feel better, keep taking this medication as prescribed. Labetalol can cause false results with certain lab tests of the urine, including a drug-screening urine test. In cases of severe hypertension, a healthcare professional will inject labetalol into a vein. Oral labetalol is consumed. Your condition could get worse if you stop abruptly. Away from heat and moisture, store items at room temperature. Tell the laboratory staff that you use labetalol. If you have a planned surgery, let your doctor know. Follow the medication's directions to the letter. When you first stand up, you might experience dizziness. You should not stop using labetalol suddenly. You may also require additional medical tests and frequent blood pressure checks. On occasion, your doctor might adjust your dosage.

Missed dose

Never combine two doses into one. If your next dose is almost due, skip the missed dose and take the medication as soon as you remember.

Overdose

Call 911 right away if the victim has fallen, experienced a seizure, is having trouble breathing, or cannot be roused. Dial 1-800-222-1222 to reach the poison control hotline in the event of an overdose. You can find information online at https://www.poisonhelp.org/help.

Storage

You shouldn't flush this medication down the toilet, though. The best way to get rid of your medication is instead through a medication take-back program. All medications should be kept out of the sight and reach of children, as many of the containers (such as weekly pill containers and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and are simple for small children to open. Store this medication out of children's reach in the tightly closed, original container. If you do not have access to a take-back program, visit the FDA's Safe Disposal of Medicines website at http://goo.gl/c4Rm4p for more details. Store it at room temperature, away from sources of extreme heat, and dry (not in the bathroom). To find out about take-back programs in your neighborhood, speak with your pharmacist or get in touch with your city's garbage/recycling department. Always lock safety caps and store medications up and away, out of sight, and away from young children to prevent poisoning. http://www.upandaway.org Unused medications should be disposed of in special ways to prevent pets, children, and other people from consuming them.

Important Do not stop taking labetalol suddenly, especially if you have heart disease. It is likely that you will only need to take labetalol during pregnancy and in the few weeks after having had your baby. They may recommend reducing your dose gradually over a few weeks. It will be less likely to upset your stomach.
