Description
After you finish the PulsePak, do not take any itraconazole for the next 3 weeks. Always take itraconazole during or right after a full meal. All of the capsules in the PulsePak box will have been consumed after seven days. As directed by your doctor, make sure to finish the entire course of itraconazole. You may take itraconazole twice a day for one week in "pulses," depending on the severity of your infection, or once daily for 12 weeks. Never miss a dose. Itraconazole continues to work inside your nails to help fight the fungal infection even though you are not taking any capsules at this time. Ask your doctor what to do with the missed doses of itraconazole if you forget to take them or miss a dose. If you have ever had liver problems, your doctor should do a blood test to check your condition. Your doctor might advise blood tests to check the health of your liver even if you have never experienced liver issues because itraconazole users have a higher risk of developing liver issues. There is a card with 4 capsules inside each pouch. Each pouch represents a day of treatment, making a total of 7 pouches. Itraconazole PulsePak If you use the PulsePak, you will take itraconazole for one week, go without itraconazole for three weeks, and then repeat the one-week treatment. Fold the card back along the dotted line while keeping an eye on the card's reverse, then peel off the backing to reveal two capsules. Take 2 capsules in the morning and 2 capsules in the evening. Special instructions are provided with the itraconazole PulsePak. One "pulse" (one week of treatment) of itraconazole is provided by the itraconazole PulsePak. "Pulse dosing" is the term for this. For a period of seven days, this entails taking four capsules daily. When your doctor prescribes another pulse treatment, be sure to get your refill before the end of week 4. To effectively treat your fungal nail infection, more than one "pulse" will be required. Either a PulsePak or a bottle of capsules will be delivered to you. The appropriate dose for you will be chosen by your doctor.
Dosage
In addition, if you have achlorhydria, a condition in which there is little or no stomach acid, or if you take medications that do the same (such as H2 blockers like ranitidine and proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole), you should take this medication with an acidic beverage (such as cola). Antacids may decrease the absorption of this medication. For more information, speak with your physician or pharmacist. Even if symptoms go away after a few days, keep taking this medicine until the entire prescribed amount is gone. Without your doctor's approval, never change this medication's forms or brands. Take this antifungal at regular intervals for the best results. Ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions. If you take this medication in cycles, put a reminder on your calendar. Before starting to take itraconazole and each time you get a refill, read the Patient Information Leaflet if one is provided by your pharmacist. You might have to cycle through taking this medication (twice daily for one week, followed by a three-week break) in order to treat certain conditions. If you stop the medication too soon, the infection might come back. As a whole, swallow the capsules. Take itraconazole two hours prior to or one hour following antacid use. As prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily, take this medication by mouth with a full meal. Exactly as directed by your doctor, take this medication. If your condition does not improve or if it worsens, let your doctor know. This medication is available in three different dosage forms that can be taken orally, orally disintegrating tablets, and orally disintegrating capsules. Your medical condition and treatment response will determine the dosage and duration of the course of action. Take this medication at the same time(s) every day to make it easier for you to remember.
Missed dose
To make up for a missed dose, do not take a second one. Skip the missed dose and carry on with your regular dosing schedule, though, if it is almost time for the subsequent dose. When you remember, immediately take the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you took too much itraconazole, call your doctor or local poison control center, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.
Storage
You should not, however, dispose of this medication in the toilet. The best way to get rid of your medication is instead through a medication take-back program. All medications should be kept out of the sight and reach of children, as many of the containers (such as weekly pill containers and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and are simple for small children to open. Store this medication out of children's reach in the tightly closed, original container. If you do not have access to a take-back program, visit the FDA's Safe Disposal of Medicines website at http://goo.gl/c4Rm4p for more information. It should not be kept in the bathroom. Store it at room temperature and away from excessive heat, light, and moisture. For information on take-back programs in your neighborhood, speak with your pharmacist or get in touch with the waste/recycling department of your city. Always lock safety caps and immediately store medications up and away and out of young children's sight and reach. http://www.upandaway.org Unused medications should be disposed of in special ways to ensure that pets, children, and other people cannot ingest them.
