Side effects

Constipation, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, difficulty breathing, swelling, edema, rash, flushing, and low blood pressure, which is referred to medically as hypotension, are some of the more frequent side effects of verapamil. Interactions

Tell your doctor right away if you use any of the following drugs: azole antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole), conivaptan, delavirdine, and nefazodone drugs that block the enzyme CYP3A4 such as some macrolide antibiotics (clarithromycin, telithromycin), some HIV protease inhibitors (indinavir, John's wort, nimodipine (Nimotop), and anti-arrhythmic drugs like disopyramide (Norpace), flecainide (Tambocor), and quinidine, as well as statins like simvastatin (Zocor), atorvastatin (Lipitor), digoxin (Lanoxin), lithium, cimetidine (Tagamet), and carbamazepine (Equetro, Tegre Inform your doctor about all of the medications you take, including any prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Contraindications
Call your doctor right away. liver problems. Until you know how verapamil affects you, avoid operating heavy machinery or driving. Verapamil should not be taken if you have any of the following conditions: severe left ventricular dysfunction; low blood pressure (systolic pressure less than 90 mmHg) or cardiogenic shock; sick sinus syndrome (except in patients with a functioning artificial pacemaker); second- or third-degree AV block (except in patients with a functioning artificial pacemaker); atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation and an accessory bypass tract, such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or Low Hypotension, or low blood pressure, may cause you to feel faint or dizzy. An excessive drop in blood pressure can also be brought on by inadequate hydration, excessive perspiration, diarrhea, or vomiting. If you experience fainting or vertigo, lie down. Verapamil has been linked to serious side effects, such as heart failure, when taken orally or intravenously. If you experience any of the following signs of an arrhythmia, also known medically as an irregular heartbeat, call your doctor right away. Fast or slow heartbeat, skipping beats, lightheadedness or dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, Verapamil can cause dizziness. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you experience any of the following symptoms of heart failure: worsening shortness of breath new or increasing irregularities in your heart rate hypotension. If you experience any of the following signs of liver disease, contact your doctor right away: fever right upper abdominal (chest area) pain new irregular heartbeats general feeling of discomfort, illness, or lack of well-being (malaise). Lab tests for liver function may require close observation by your doctor.
Trigeminal nerve block focuses on the area around the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from the face to the brain. These include: The beta blockers propranolol (Inderal), metoprolol tartrate (Lopressor, Toprol) The calcium channel blockers verapamil (Verelan, Calan, Covera, Isoptin), diltiazem (Cardizem, Dilt-cd, Tiazac, Dilacor) Antidepressants may be effective in preventing migraines, even in people without depression. It is generally well-tolerated, but could cause nausea, sleepiness, or dry mouth. Regardless of the treatment that is chosen, it should be used at the onset of the headache.
It is possible that these effects may add to the effects of eletriptan. Other drugs that block the same enzyme include diltiazem (Cardizem; Dilacor), Verapamil (Calan; Isoptin), fluconazole (Diflucan), voriconazole (VFend), indinavir (Crixivan), and erythromycin (Ery-Tab). Eletriptan should not be taken if any of these medications have been taken within the previous 72 hours. Ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), nefazodone (Serzone), clarithromycin (Biaxin), ritonavir (Norvir), and nelfinavir (Viracept) may increase the amount of eletriptan in the blood by blocking an enzyme in the liver that's important in eliminating eletriptan.
Cyclosporine may increase your risk of developing certain types of cancer, including skin cancer. During treatment, your doctor may perform tests for breakdown products (metabolites) of Imuran that can help monitor how your body is reacting to the drug. Because immunosuppressive drugs put down the immune system, people taking them are at an increased risk for infection. Be sure to notify your doctor if you are taking any of these medications.
Your condition may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
