Never combine two gemfibrozil doses. Gemfibrozil is a pill that must be taken orally twice daily, 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. When you realize you missed a dose, take it right away. Exactly as directed, take gemfibrozil.

Be sure to follow all exercise and dietary recommendations made by your doctor or dietitian. Even if you feel good, keep taking the gemfibrozil. Never stop taking gemfibrozil without consulting your doctor first. Never take it in larger or smaller amounts or more frequently than directed by your doctor. Eat a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Gemfibrozil is available as a tablet that needs to be swallowed. However, gemfibrozil does not treat high triglyceride levels or low HDL levels. It is usually taken twice a day, 30 minutes before the morning and evening meals. Take gemfibrozil every day at roughly the same time. Take gemfibrozil exactly as directed. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details if you think this medication may be prescribed for other conditions.
