Interactions
When HSDD manifests in a patient who had no prior issues with sexual desire, it is referred to as acquired HSDD. Flibanserin is prescribed to treat premenopausal women who have acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), which is characterized by low sexual desire that causes noticeable distress or interpersonal difficulty and is not brought on by any of the following: a co-occurring medical or psychiatric condition; issues in the relationship; or the side effects of a drug or other substance. Generalized HSDD refers to HSDD that occurs regardless of the type of stimulation, situation or partner.
Contraindications
If you take flibanserin or certain prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, or herbal supplements, avoid drinking alcohol. Take flibanserin without alcoholic beverages. If you are taking flibanserin, wait to drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Those who have liver issues shouldn't take flibanserin. If you have any of the following conditions, you should not take flibanserin: you have an allergy to flibanserin or any of its ingredients; you consume alcohol; you have liver issues; you take medications that are strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, such as conivaptan (Vaprisol), delaviridine (Rescriptor), and nefazadone. Prior to speaking with your doctor, avoid taking or starting to take any prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, or herbal supplements while taking flibanserin.
