Interactions

If you take any of the following medications, be sure to let your doctor know: phenothiazines like chlorpromazine (Thorazine), thioridazine (Mellaril), fluphenazine (Prolixin), perphenazine (Triavil), prochlorperazine (Compazine), and trifluoperazine (Stelazine). Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Contraindications
When getting up from a seated or supine (lying down) position, take care. The following conditions should be avoided before taking this medication: uncontrolled hypertension; known hypersensitivity to ergot derivatives; a history of heart valve issues; a history of lung, heart, or retroperitoneal fibrotic disorders (a rare condition that blocks the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder); allergies to Dostinex or any of its inactive ingredients. You may experience lightheadedness or fainting due to hypotension, or low blood pressure. Notify your doctor if they experience swelling in their extremities, a persistent cough, shortness of breath, or trouble breathing when lying down. Patients taking drugs like Dostinex have been noted to have pathological gambling, increased libido (sexual drive), and hypersexuality. Dostinex has been associated with serious side effects, such as hypotension. It has been demonstrated that lowering the dose or stopping the medication will lessen this side effect.
Among geriatric patients, particularly women, dyskinesia sometimes develops when patients stop taking metoclopramide after long-term treatment. It is therefore very important that these symptoms be adequately treated. Metoclopramide is most often used in patients taking cisplatin (Platinol) chemotherapy. Less common side effects include insomnia, headache, and dizziness. The recommended dose varies from patient to patient, and depends on both the severity of nausea and vomiting, and on the toxicity of the drug.
Bromocriptine and Cabergoline: Oral medications used to reduce the amount of prolactin released by the pituitary. Potential side effects include the same as noted above for FSH.
