A non-steroidal androgen receptor inhibitor, bicilutamide is a prescription drug that is part of this group of drugs. A medication known as a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone, or LHRH, is administered along with bicalutamide. Bicalutamide is a drug that is used to treat prostate cancer that has metastatic (spread to other parts of the body) disease. The safety and efficacy of bicalutamide tablets in children are unknown. The production of testosterone by the testicles is inhibited by LHRH.


Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Exactly as directed, take bicalutamide. Once daily administration of 50 mg of bicalutamide is advised.

Missed dose

Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your LHRH injection. Never combine two doses at once. Use your next dose at the scheduled time rather than skipping the missed one.

When taking bicalutamide along with LHRH medications, poor blood sugar control may result. Bicalutamide users occasionally develop interstitial lung disease, a lung inflammation. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itching of the skin, hives (raised bumps), swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, or trouble swallowing. The most frequent side effects of bicalutamide are: hot flashes, or brief periods of feeling warm and sweating; whole-body pain; pain in your back, pelvis, or stomach; feeling weak; nausea; swelling in your ankles, legs, or feet; diarrhea; waking from sleep to go to the bathroom at night; a decrease in red blood cells (anemia); feeling dizzy. If you experience any side effects that bother you or do not go away, contact your healthcare provider. The side effects of bicuculline do not end here. These could be signs of liver damage. Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, right upper stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, loss of appetite, chills, fever, whole body pain.
