In addition to or instead of other DMARDs, baricitinib may be used as monotherapy. For the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis in adult patients who are candidates for systemic therapy, baricitinib is indicated in Europe. Baricitinib is prescribed for the treatment of adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis who have not responded well to one or more TNF blockers in the US and Europe. Baricitinib is also approved in the US to treat adults hospitalized with COVID-19 who require extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation, or supplemental oxygen.
