Interactions
Especially tell your doctor if you take: atazanavir (Reyataz) cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral) digoxin (Lanoxin) ketoconazole (Nizoral) warfarin (Coumadin) theophylline (THEO-24 Thelair) diazepam (Valium) phenytoin (Dilantin) antibiotics Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking or intend to take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Contraindications
Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) associated diarrhea. Serious allergic reactions are just one example of the serious side effects associated with Aciphex. Any of the following symptoms should be reported to your doctor: rash, face swelling, throat tightness, difficulty breathing, low blood magnesium. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor right away: seizures, dizziness, irregular or fast heartbeat, jitteriness, jerking or shaking (tremors), muscle weakness, cramps or voice box spasms. Your doctor may check your body's magnesium levels before you start taking Aciphex, during treatment, or if you plan to take Aciphex for an extended period of time. Tell your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms, including all of them: watery diarrhea (at least three bowel movements per day for two or more days), loss of appetite, abdominal pain or tenderness, nausea, or fever. You should not take Aciphex if you have any of the following conditions: an allergy to any of its ingredients; an allergy to other proton pump inhibitors; a child under the age of 12; or any of the following conditions.
• Aciphex is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of gastric acid in a person’s stomach. Complications potentially associated with this class of medications include magnesium and B12 deficiency, certain fractures, and a serious kidney injury called acute interstitial nephritis.
