Other names for this medication:
Aripiprazole

Similar Products:
Bupropion, Sertraline, Duloxetine, Geodon, Endep, Celexa, Seroquel, Prozac, Tofranil, Luvox, Desyrel, Escitalopram, Fluvoxamine

Description

Aripiprazole can treat severe mood swings and decrease how often mood swings occur. Antipsychotic medication of the atypical type, aripiprazole is well-known. Certain mental/mood disorders (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Tourette's syndrome, and irritability related to autism disorder) are treated with aripiprazole. It enables you to think more clearly, have a positive self-image, experience less anxiety, and participate more actively in daily life. As a complementary therapy for depression, it is also an option. It functions by assisting in the re-establishment of the proper ratio of certain brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters. This medication can lessen hallucinations and enhance your focus.

Dosage

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about every product you use, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products. Don't take more medication than advised, nor should you use it more frequently or for a longer period of time. Stop using this medication only after consulting your doctor. Avoid using a regular spoon because you might not get the right dosage. Follow your doctor's direction on how to take this medication. Pay close attention to the instructions given by your doctor. Many comparable medications (immediate-release tablets) can be crushed or split, though. Use a special measuring tool or cup to precisely measure the dose if you are taking the medication in liquid form. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Before you experience the full benefits of this medication, it may take a few weeks. Even if you feel fine, continue taking this medication. Before starting to take aripiprazole and each time you get a refill, read the Medication Guide and, if available, the Patient Information Leaflet that was given to you by your pharmacist. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Take this medication by mouth once daily, usually with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor. Inform your doctor if your condition doesn't get better or if it gets worse. Your medical condition, treatment response, age, and any additional medications you may be taking will all factor into the dosage. The manufacturer directs to swallow this medication whole. Take it at the same time every day to help yourself remember. Your physician might advise you to begin taking this medication at a low dose and gradually increase it to reduce your risk of experiencing side effects. To maximize the benefits of this medication, take it frequently. While your risk of side effects will rise, your condition won't get any better any faster. It might be necessary to gradually reduce your dosage.

Missed dose

Never combine two doses into one. Before you run out of medication entirely, have your prescription filled. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medication as soon as you can.

Overdose

However, seek immediate medical attention if overdose is thought to have occurred. An overdose is unlikely to happen if Abilify is given by a healthcare professional in a hospital setting. Call your doctor or the local poison control center right away if you take too much Abilify, or go to the hospital right away for emergency care.

Storage

Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company. When the oral solution has reached its expiration date or six months after opening, whichever comes first, throw it away. Unless specifically instructed to do so, avoid flushing medications down the toilet or pouring them into drains. Do not store in the bathroom. Away from children and pets, keep all medications. When the product has run its course or is no longer required, dispose of it properly. The tablet and oral liquid should be kept at room temperature, away from moisture and light.

All of your medications, including allergy and cold/cough remedies, should have their labels read carefully because they might contain drowsiness-inducing ingredients. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval. Drug interactions may alter how your medications function or raise your risk for serious side effects. Keep a list of everything you use, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications, and give it to both your doctor and pharmacist. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications that make you drowsy, such as alcohol, marijuana (cannabis), sedatives or anxiety medications (alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants (carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine), or antihistamines (cetrizine, diphenhydramine). Not every possible drug interaction is covered in this document.

If at all possible, spend the day inside in a cool location. Increases in blood sugar can happen in some people who take Abilify. It is important to discuss all the risks of treating depression and also the risks of not treating it. To show the healthcare provider, keep a list of all your medications. Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure) may also appear after you stop taking Abilify. Even if you stop taking Abilify, tardive dyskinesia might not go away. If you experience any of the following life-threatening nervous system disorder symptoms, including any combination of them, contact your doctor right away: high fever stiff muscles confusion sweating changes in pulse, heart rate, and blood pressure high blood sugar. Vraylar vs Abilify - How do they compare?

Abilify (aripiprazole) and Vraylar (cariprazine) are both classified as atypical antipsychotic medications. They help to treat several mental health conditions, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. They both affect chemicals in the brain such as serotonin and dopamine to help stabilize mood, thoughts and behaviors.

What does 1 mg of Abilify do?

ABILIFY is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe manic episodes in Bipolar I Disorder and for the prevention of a new manic episode in adults who experienced predominantly manic episodes and whose manic episodes responded to aripiprazole treatment (see section 5.1).

Why are anticholinergics used with antipsychotics?

Anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) drugs are prescribed alongside antipsychotic drugs to help prevent unwanted extrapyramidal side effects often associated with antipsychotics.

How does Abilify MyCite work?

The oral tablet formulation Abilify MyCite (aripiprazole) is embedded with the ingestible Proteus sensor that allows patients, and, if given access, doctors and caregivers, to track ingestion of the Abilify medication on a smartphone or web-based portal. The system sends a message from the pill’s sensor to a wearable patch on the patient, which then transmits to the device.

Some say the antipsychotic drug caused compulsive gambling and eating. In 2016, the FDA followed suit, requiring a black box warning on Abilify labels. Of these, the most often reported compulsion was gambling.

We will also explore what abilify is, what are the precautions surrounding its use, and its side effects. In this article we will discuss whether abilify can be used for anxiety as well as give you a quick guide as to how one can use abilify.

MirHossein Jalali Nov 3, 2020, 9:04:23 AM

ABILIFY is effective in a dose range of 10 mg/day to 30 mg/day. Doses higher than 10 mg/day should therefore only be used in exceptional cases and with close clinical monitoring (see sections 4.4, 4.8 and 5.1). When concomitant administration of strong CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 inhibitors with aripiprazole occurs, the aripiprazole dose should be reduced. Currently available data are described in section 5.1 but no recommendation on a posology can be made.

Carl Rossman Dec 26, 2018, 10:08:59 PM

Concomitant oral aripiprazole should be restarted for 14 days with next administered injection or two separate injections given at one time, along with a single dose of 20 mg oral aripiprazole. Care should be taken to avoid inadvertent injection into a blood vessel. No dosage adjustment is required for patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment. If 4 or subsequent doses are missed (i.e., after attainment of steady state) and time since last injection is: The injection should be administered as soon as possible and then the monthly injection schedule should be resumed. Maintenance dose adjustments due to interactions with CYP2D6 and/or CYP3A4 inhibitors and/or CYP3A4 inducers Maintenance dosage adjustments should be made in patients taking concomitant strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or strong CYP2D6 inhibitors for more than 14 days.
